Cordova Methane Controls Introduces New Emissions Control Product, BurnerHawk
Pilot and Main Burner Closure System to Prevent Emissions

Greeley, Colo. (February 11, 2025) – Cordova Methane Controls, a pioneer in supplying engineered environmental solutions to the energy industry, announces the release of BurnerHawk. Cordova’s BurnerHawk system addresses the issue of pilot flame loss in burner systems when burner management systems (BMS) are not installed.

The BurnerHawk is designed to automatically close the pilot and main burner gas upon pilot flame loss. This system is ideal for legacy wells with no BMS and requires no solar, grid power or electronics to operate and is capable of alarm status-production equipment shut-in. With only a 1-hour installation timeframe, this system is a quick and effective solution for operators.

The BurnerHawk is not designed to restart the burner, but rather prevent methane emissions and assist operators in avoiding super emitter fines if an extinguished pilot is not recognized and restarted quickly.

According to Quad O regulations a super emitter is “any emissions event that is located at or near an oil and gas natural gas facility (e.g., individual well site, centralized production facility, natural gas processing plant or compressor station) and that is detected using remote detection methods and has quantified emission rate of 100 kg/hr. of methane or greater.

“Our team has witnessed extinguished pilots and associated main burner gas exceed super emitter thresholds quickly,” said Cordova Methane Controls President Derek Moore. “We designed this system for sites with no BMS, in remote locations. For our customers who have implemented our VentHawk system, BurnerHawk works in conjunction with the VentHawk pneumatic vent gas capture and reutilization system.”

Cordova Methane Controls is committed to providing customers with innovative solutions that allow them to meet emissions regulations and foster environmental stewardship. The BurnerHawk system was specifically designed to reduce emissions and provide a quick return on investment, both financial and regulatory. Cordova’s mission is to stay on the cutting edge of the industry while remaining economically feasible and environmentally conscious.
